On Wednesday, Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has donated N1.5 billion (~3.8 milion) to the Nigeria/United Nations Covid-19 Basket Fund to support the fight against the ongoing disease.
According to the statement of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group and Chairman of the ADF, the donation will be used to purchase supplies such as testing kits, PPE and other medical equipment.
The Nigeria/United Nations Covid-19 Basket Fund is designed to be able to receive financial support through stakeholders, including the contribution of private sector too. Stakeholders can direct their monetary contribution to the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the UN agency in Nigeria is working with the government to boost the response, control the spreading and ensure those affected by the disease will receive the most optimal assistance.
Mr Edward Kallon, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Nigeria said : “We need all hands on deck to help the Government to keep the medical system working fluently and being able to solve future challenges intensified by the pandemic.”
ADF is also a founding member of CACOVID, the Nigerian private sector coalition against COVID-19 besides partnering with the UN in Nigeria in support of government’s COVID-19 response.
