10 Nigerians and 17 Chinese have been arrested for illegal mining in Osun.
This coordinated operation was conducted by the Joint Task Force and has captured 27 people involved, including one Bale of a community in the state.
According to Mr Abdullahi Binuyo, Deputy Chief of Staff to Gov. Gboyega Oyetola, all suspected will be prosecuted and indemnify for damages caused.
To his saying, not only they have caused the economic leakages, these illegal miners have also polluted the Osun River with hard metals that are poisonous for both human and irrigation.
“They claimed to have Exploration Licenses, but their licenses are not genuine and they did not register with the State. In time like this, they did not follow the rule stay at home for preventing the spread of coronavirus. They have polluted the environment and threatened the public health. Therefore, we will prosecute and indemnify them for the damages they have caused. “
